Millennium Park is an innovative, ambitious project that started modestly with Kent County Parks Department. They were well aware that the land was mostly rolling and was located just outside Grand Rapids. It is between Johnson Park to its west and John Ball Zoological Garden in the east. The land was used primarily for industrial purposes in recent years, but it was rich in natural resource and beauty.
According to Parks Department personnel, the area was perfect for families to enjoy swimming, biking and picnicking.

Millennium Park is currently in the process to restore approximately 1,500 acres from this land to public urban greenspace. The Park will eventually touch Grand Rapids, Walker and Grandville. It will be double the size of New York City’s Central Park. This will make it one the largest urban parks in America.
